Seeking Help

At 10 o’clock one morning a motorcycle pulled onto the Hope property. A middle aged man and his nephew got off. The man used a simple walking stick.

Both were seeking medical assistance for something called Hubag. It is an infectious boil that is common in the tropics. Christina pulled out the first aid supplies used for Mercy Ministry. These supplies arrive in boxes from Canada and are vital for times such as these as well as well as use as an everyday first aid kit. Simple cuts can become infected to the point of causing death if left unattended in the tropics. An erupting boil can surface overnight without even a cut or sore. Contaminated water, parasites or disease within the body has to have an outlet.

Simple remedies that are native to the island are often the only hope for many. The nephew had put a local flower all around his oozing sore to help relieve the pain. These men who came had both been suffering for over a week. Attempts to get help elsewhere had not been successful.

The love of God is manifest in our care for those around us. To proclaim our love for villagers but to turn them away when their physical bodies are in obvious need of care would not speak of that love.

Christina is the go to person for medical assistance.  She is not a nurse and has faced many oozing and vile smelling encounters. As she put pressure on the area to clean it there was a volcanic eruption.

After prayer and much tender loving care and attention the men left, thankful for the care they received.

As is often the case, Christina was soon tending to someone else.  The local police officer came with a leg infection.

We are so grateful to those of you who have given financially or have purchased medical supplies so that we can replenish our supplies.
