I had the pleasure of driving Let to Del Carmen to follow up with two of the kids in our Hope for the Island Malnourished Program. We were so pleased to see them clean and happy.
ELIZA
Let had so much fun playing the peek a boo game with Eliza. She is 4 years old now and hasn’t progressed much in weight or height. You can definitely see that she interacts well with people and is quite a cheerful little girl. Her mom mentioned that she easily gets sick. Currently her asthma is acting up and she has a bad cough. I was so impressed by this mother. She has another daughter who is 2 years old and is quite healthy. This dear lady found Eliza on the side of the road! Her health has been a challenge from day one. She was very malnourished and her body was covered in skin diseases. I thanked the mom for her constant love and care and encouraged her that many are praying that Eliza’s lung will become strong and she will gain weight.
MARIEL
Another little one, Mariel was the total opposite of Eliza. She was clinging to her mother’s legs and reminded me of Makana when she was 3 years old, quite shy and needed my hand or leg to cling to. We thank God that Mariel is gaining weight. She is old enough to understand that people are sending her food and that she doesn’t have to share it because she needs to get healthy. Her mom was laughing when she told the stories of Mariel eating the dehydrated apples and not sharing even one with her older brother and sister, yet they always share everything else! As a mother I can only imagine how it must be such a blessing and relief to finally see your child have a good appetite and to be on the path to good health.
Our last stop was to drop off meds and used clothes to the Del Carmen Health Center. Let and the staff had fun looking at the cutest little clothes that we received in the door-to-door boxes. These boxes come from Canada and the United States and are full of a variety of donations. We have the joy of distributing these clothing and other blessings to children and to mothers who have just given birth.
The used clothing fills such a need for mothers who have just given birth or for kids in the malnourished program. Thank you for making such a difference in the lives of these families! Needless to say, they are poor and these items are such a blessing. We are grateful for your financial and monetary donations that enable us to continue with the Malnourished Program.
Please continue to pray for these families and their children.
