Jenny is from Australia and she visited Hope for the Island a few years ago as part of a team that brought water purification units. She recently returned to visit and gave of herself in a new and exciting way for us!

A Child’s Prayer Request
Every year it is a heartbreaking reality that those families we minister to may experience the death of a loved one. It can be due to a variety of illnesses or diseases.
One particular girl named Indy in Kid’s Ministry asked for prayer for her mother Narda. One of our Hope for the Island staff followed up and was shocked when she visited their home and saw how thin the woman had become. This woman and her husband chop and sell fire wood. The rain and bad weather has made it difficult to get wood and then dry it. In addition to this, the mother claims that she has only slept a few hours in the last three months.

Dennis Derkach: Called Back
Dennis Derkach is a Hope for the Island Canada board member and shares about his most recent trip to the Philippines.
They say the third time is a charm but I count it a huge blessing. God gave me the opportunity to go to Hope for the Island for the third time in three years. Each visit I am amazed how God is prospering the ministry in all areas.

Update Typhoon Outreach
When we allow God to burden our hearts and obey what matters most to Him, it seems as though our fast forward life slows to a pace where everything comes into perspective. It becomes very clear that we are in His presence and fulfilling the very thing we were created for. Although we minister week in and week out at Hope for the Island, we too can get comfortable and caught up in routine. Taking our Christmas break to go serve the victims of super typhoon Bopha was the best way to celebrate everything that our Savior represents. It was an end to the year that all of our staff will never forget! As we sat sharing testimonies from our outreach this morning the tears freely flowed. We all wish we didn’t have to leave.

We Are On Our Way
Our planned outreach to typhoon affected areas was delayed two days, due to yet another typhoon. “Quinta” hammered us on Christmas day. Although it was not as destructive and strong as “Bopha” that wreaked havoc in Mindanao, we in Siargao got hit harder. The eye was closer and north of us so the winds came straight at us and violently shook our windows and roof. Thankfully, the only damage we had was to trees and the thatch roofing on our small buildings.
