The Best Harvest Ever

Since the day our farmers joined Hope for the Island we have been praying for them. For months we have been laying seeds of truth in the hearts of our farmer workers. We have been praying that they would get to know Christ and make a decision to make Him Lord and Savior. One of the six farmers, Edang was already a Christian when he joined our team. The others were originally accepted to come on as farm staff even though they were not Christians.

September 22, during the scheduled daily morning devotions, five people made that beautiful decision. It was like a light had turned on. God’s grace and love came flooding in. I asked them to speak about how they were feeling and where they stood and explained that we at Hope would respect whatever their decision was. I shared the verses Jeremiah 29: 11 “For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans to prosper and not to harm you, to give you life and a future.” I read John 1: 12 “But as many have received Him, to them He gave the right to become the children of God, to those who believe in His name.”

One of the guys with tears in his eyes said that he wanted to have this kind of relationship. He wanted to be the child of a loving Father. His father died when he was very young.  With the weight of responsibility on him as the eldest, he felt lost with no fatherly guidance. For him to have a Father who gives this assurance of love and acceptance was overwhelming. He was amazed that he could be a son once again. He could trust and depend on the one who cared so much for him, gave him life and died for his sins.

Please pray for our farmers as they learn to be disciples and are committed to grow. They have all acknowledged that working at Hope changed their life. They opened their Bibles for the first time in their lives. They now have an inner conviction to pray and when they do something wrong they become uncomfortable knowing that a sovereign being knows all things.

I explained the spiritual birthday that they all shared and they cried out “Happy Birthday” to each other. It is such a joy for me to know that they are now my brothers and my sister in the Lord. Now more than ever we are one family. Regardless of our backgrounds we now have one future. We will be together with our Heavenly Father.
