Good To Be Home

The month of May was a great month for our family. Because school was out, we worked it into our schedule to get away to meet the growing developmental and social needs of our kids.  Although challenging at times, growing up and living on an Island is more than awesome for them in so many ways.  I really know how blessed we are to be serving where God has called us.  As parents, Derek and I want to make sure we don’t get too busy focusing on ministry and neglect investing wisely in our kids.

One day they will be the ones called by God to do something great! During our time away, Makana and Brison attended the summer program at a Montessori school in Cagayan. They learned organic farming, piano and core academic subjects. They enjoyed all the hands on projects and their classmates. Each afternoon Makana was in a theater / dance class.  A day before leaving Cagayan she performed in the Lion King production at a theater at SM mall in front of a large crowd and TV cameras! In the past, Makana has struggled with participating in any program. This was a massive step for her and a huge blessing for us to witness.

We also put Brison in kickboxing, which was fabulous for him to be in a disciplined environment where he was challenged physically. I enrolled in a photography course to help me with the many photos that are needed for our monthly updates and newsletters.

Derek’s goal was to connect with farmers and learn new techniques. He came back to Siargao with sheep for the farm, trees and various seedlings.  A third generation farmer friend, along with his family, came back with us to Siargao for a week.  He shared insights and encouraged our farm team. Being away gave us a fresh perspective and a rejuvenated spirit!
